Sir,

A recent report revealed that millions of disabled people across the UK are trapped in poverty. The report shows that there are an estimated three million disabled people living in relative poverty in the UK.

At the same time, welfare benefits and tax credits worth £13 billion a year are going unclaimed, according to government estimates. Why do disabled people not claim these benefits? Perhaps, because they do not know they may be entitled and are often too afraid or too proud to ask for advice. Or is it because claiming is such a difficult process with complicated claim forms and intrusive, repetitive questions?

Benefit Information Services aims to ensure disabled people are aware of the benefits available to them. For a free check to make sure you aren't missing out, telephone Benefit Information Services on 0845 6120 474.
