Ben Thomas began playing at seven years old and attended Greenhill School where he learnt music and began leading his own bands from an early age. He went on to study under the influential composer Keith Tippet and has been a busy freelance musician ever since.
He has worked throughout the UK with many high profile acts, including pop band Gorky Zygotic Mynci, as well as Tenby based The Afternoons, and supporting The Manic Street Preachers to a huge crowd in Cardiff.
He has been described as "one of the most exciting young jazz trumpet players on the scene today."
He has enjoyed playing with a number of top jazz names such as Tony Levin, Thad Kelly, Andy Richards (BBC Jazz Drummer Of The Year) and Dana Murray (Lincoln Jazz Orchestra and Wynton Marsalis drummer) and performed at many top venues such as Cheltenham, Pontypool and Brecon jazz festivals.
His first album 'Last Day' has featured on many radio stations, being described as "an excellent showcase for Ben's talents, with a contemporary but classic sound" (BBC Radio Wales).
Narberth Jazz Club is held monthly at the Rugby Club and features many well known bands on the Welsh scene, with occasional visits from national names.
Wednesday's show starts at 8.30 pm and is supported by Span Arts with help from Arts Council Wales.
The Ben Thomas Band features James Chadwick on guitar, Greg Evans - drums, and Jon Goode - bass, playing well known standards and imaginative originals, with a display of superb musicianship from a local boy made good.
