New Hedges Village Hall, near Tenby had a truly festive appeal, bedecked with WI craft buntings and a ‘Street-Party’ layout for a belated Coronation Tea.

President Barbara warmly welcomed members, especially longest serving member Jean, returning after a long convalescence and to Chris, on crutches following a recent knee operation. June birthdays were celebrated, and congratulations given to Gill on becoming a great-grandmother to baby Rory Oliver.

Members had good news of a legacy from NFWI: following the sale of Denman, funds have been allocated for online free educational training available to all.

Those who had attended the AGM in Cardiff and ‘Anything Goes’ in Milford Haven theatre had all enjoyed the events.

There was disappointment that the planned visit to Picton Castle was cancelled because a conference would be ongoing. However, smiles returned when tea was announced and everyone began tucking in to a wonderful array food: sandwiches, savouries, scones, delicacies of every kind and jelly with cream! A fantastic chocolate gateau made by Barbara F’s daughter Susan was cut and sliced as a finale to this very sociable celebration for King Charles III.

Competition entries for ‘The Best Crown’ - 1st place Vena, 2nd Barbara Pegg and in 3rd Betty - all were very creative. ‘An Unusual Teapot’ was the other competition, with lots to choose from; winners were 1st Jane, 2nd Jan E and 3rd Barbara Pegg.

Regular sub-groups are going strong, Walking, Craft and Book Club. If you would like to know more or details of events in the Newsletter, contact any member of the committee.

Barbara had a couple of jokes to bring more amusement. In closing, Barbara thanked everyone who had contributed to the day’s wonderful festivities, much enjoyed.

Everyone is welcome to join New Hedges WI at the next meeting on July 13 at 2pm.
