Sir,

We have on our front lawn - well, it is not really a lawn, but a grassy area with some clover beds and other anti-lawn plants - a bunny size dent. Most afternoons, a wild rabbit sits in the dent, which he or she has made, and munches the clover.

He or she is not disturbed by the comings and goings of cars and people using the drive, which is in close proximity, and is obviously just enjoying 'being in clover'; and at last I understand the meaning of the phrase.
