On Sunday, October 14, the Griffon Choir aroused the sleepy little church at Bosherston with a varied concert of religious and secular music. Under the direction of their choir master, Dr. John Harrison, the choir delivered the first item, 'Tydi-a- Rhoddaist,' setting the tone for this interesting musical evening. Three spiritual items followed and were accompanied by guest pianist Juliet Rossiter - a setting of Psalm 23, 'The Vicar of Dibley's' musical theme, Mozart's 'Ave Verum' and 'Panis Angelicus.' Dawn Homphray, a soprano choir member, accompanied by Judy McGilloway, also a member, treated the audience to two beautiful solos - 'Wishing you were somewhere here again' from Phantom of the Opera and 'Don't be Cross' from a German operatta. The choir followed with 'As long as I have Music' 'Lisa-Lan', the moving evening prayer (words by Dylan Thomas), 'Trotes Chant', and rounded of this section with a lusty and powerful performance of 'Hafan Gobaith', made famous by Bryn Terfel. Everyone then sat back and listened once more to Dawn singing two very wistful and touching lullabies - 'Dream Angus' (Scottish) and 'On Slumber Tree' (Irish). Both songs were very sensitively delivered by Dawn and Judy on piano. The mood changed for the final section of the programme to more rhythmical and rousing items by the choir, the spiritual 'Ride the Chariot', Siyahamba', sung in Swahili, and 'You'll never walk alone'. A moving performance of the beautiful hymn 'How Great Thou Art' brought this evening of beautiful music to its finale, and was suitably enjoyed and appreciated by all.
