Sir, At this moment, the North Cliff end of Tenby's North Beach, at low water, is littered with several tons of anchor chains, concrete blocks with embedded iron and lots of broken glass. The sand, just below the surface, is black with oily deposits and is probably contaminated with PCB elements (anti fouling paints) which were used in the past on harbour boats. In addition, the high tide mark has a good number of large wood pieces which should be removed. In the event of injury to anyone on the beach, we would ask who would be the responsible authority when a claim is made? All these deposits are a direct result of the dumping on the beach after the recent dredging of Tenby harbour. In the circumstance, can Tenby really claim blue flag status for its clean and safe beach?
