Dog bans will be enforced on two additional Pembrokeshire beaches this summer.

The restrictions, which began on May 1, and will continue until September 30, are in place on Tenby South Beach - including Castle Beach - and Poppit Sands, near Cardigan.

Between the same dates, restrictions will continue at Tenby North Beach and Whitesands and partial restrictions will also be in force at Newgale, Saundersfoot, Amroth and Lydstep. There are also 'dog on lead' byelaws in these areas.

Legislation under the Fouling of the Land act 1996 also applies at these beaches.

Pembrokeshire County Council dog warden, Debbie Hart, said: "Pembrokeshire has many wonderful beaches and so the authority is working to make sure that everyone can enjoy our beaches in the summer.

"In order that Pembrokeshire receives more Blue Flag Awards, it is essential that there are controls on dogs as well as safe bathing water, toilets and other facilities. The council is asking all dog owners to support these initiatives.

"It is important that everyone checks for signs at beaches that show where dogs are restricted," Debbie continued. "There are plenty of good beach areas for dog walkers. Please remember that clean-laws are in operation in Pembrokeshire throughout the year.

"Take a suitable bag so that you can 'Bag it and Bin it'. You can use an ordinary litter bin for disposing of bagged dog waste. If dog owners break the law the council can take legal action. Please let us know of offenders."
