A YOUNG Pembrokeshire rider quietly making a name for herself in various equestrian disciplines is 10-year-old Bea Bea Meyrick from Gumfreston. Riding her tiny 12-hand pony Brighteyed Benji, she has just been awarded the Side Saddle Association Points Trophy for the top junior rider in Wales. Having only started riding side saddle in March this year, other successes include fourth in the Junior Equitation Championship at the National Side Saddle Show in Buckinghamshire, and third in the Side Saddle Pony of the Year at the BSPS Summer Championships in Peterborough. Proving to be a top all-round combination, other national achievements include seventh in the finals of the prestigious Trailblazer Dressage competition held at Stoneleigh, while the pair have also finished the season as Wales' highest points scoring Cradle Stakes Working Hunter Pony, Reserve Champion Mini Working Hunter Pony and second highest in the Show Hunter Pony Section. For good measure, Bea Bea also took the highest points award for Show Hunter ponies on her other pony Crawel Golden Guinea purchased earlier this year. Of her successes, Bea Bea can't believe how lucky she has been with Benji, who was bought three years ago from a riding school as just a 'safe little pony' for her to start off on and has turned out to be such a star!
