Restaurants and bars taking advantage of Tenby’s ‘cafe culture’ over the pedestrianisation period have been asked to be sensible when laying out their tables and chairs, follwoing an incident where an ambulance struggled to get through the High Street last week.

The scheme - which restricts traffic from inside the town walls daily from 11 am to 5.30 pm over the summer period, started at the beginning of July, however speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter flagged up concerns after an emergency service vehicle called to attend a casualty in Tudor Square found difficulty in getting through.

“The ambulance had great difficulty in getting down to outside the restaurant in the sqaure where a lady had fallen over and was bleeding profusely,” she explained.

“Tables and chairs put out on both sides from premises along High Street were encroaching out of their designated areas, so I’d put a request out to those responsible to keep to the areas marked out, to make life easier for our emergency services, should they need to enter the centre,” added Clr. Mrs. Rossiter.
