Householders in Pembrokeshire are being urged to be make and use soil-enriching compost as part of this year's Compost Awareness Week (May 2-8).

The message from the Composting Association theme is 'be resourceful - compost!'

"Composting is an excellent way to save you money as well as help protect your local environment," said Clr. Brian Hall, cabinet member for transportation and environment at Pembrokeshire County Council.

The authority fully supports Home Composting, and has been offering low cost compost bins to the residents of Pembrokeshire for a number of years.

By teaming up with several other authorities the council is able to invite you to buy quality compost bins for as little as £12. This special offer is open to all residents in South West Wales.

"Making compost is a great way to reduce the amount of waste we throw away - shredded paper, grass cuttings, egg boxes and tea bags are just some of the items that can be turned into valuable garden compost," said Brian Mayne, co-ordinator of Waste Awareness Wales, a campaign to promote waste reduction, reuse and recycling.

The Composting Association has teamed up with the DIY retailer FOCUS, to provide in-store information to consumers during the week.

Details of the compost bins and order forms are available by contacting Pembrokeshire service line on 0845 6021386.
