The Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) is offering two unforgettable opportunities to crew a tall ship on two fantastic voyages, Cardiff to Barry and Barry to Southampton, and is on hunt for more crew. The voyages will be aboard the JST's magnificent square rigged tall ship SV Tenacious, which provides mixed ability crews of up to 40 people the experience and thrill of a lifetime. The first voyage will depart Cardiff on August 26 and travel along the stunning Welsh coastline. The ship will then head out to sea for a seven day voyage of discovery possibly calling into the Republic of Ireland, or the picturesque Isles of Scilly. On the return to South Wales, the ship will take pride of place amongst the fleet at Barry's Tall Ship's Festival. The second voyage departs Barry on the September 2 taking in the panoramic coastline of Devon and Cornwall before setting course for northern France. This eight-day voyage will treat the crew members to a fantastic and unique sailing experience that they will never forget. Tenacious is the largest wooden tall ship of her kind to be built in the UK in the last 100 years. She cost over £14 million to build, £6.5 million from the National Lottery and the rest from sponsorship and fundraising. Since her maiden voyage in September 2000, she has taken over 5,760 people to sea, of these over 2,210 have been physically disabled. Tenacious, and the charity's first ship, Lord Nelson, are the only two vessels in the world that have been purpose-designed and built to enable a crew of mixed physical abilities to sail side by side on equal terms. Whilst on board, crew members will play an active role in sailing the ship taking part in a range of activities including helming, setting sails and cleaning, affectionately referred to as 'happy hour'. Absolutely no sailing experience is necessary, just enthusiasm and a sense of adventure. Tenacious and the Jubilee Sailing Trust's first ship, STS Lord Nelson are the only ships in the world which have been specifically designed and built to enable both physically disabled and able-bodied people to sail together on equal terms. On each voyage, up to seven people can take part in the Leadership At Sea scheme for 16-25 years- olds and qualify for the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award (residential).
