Pembrokeshire police are urging carnival organisers to contact them for safety advice. Police are concerned about how people are carried on floats and can provide basic safety advice for carnival organisers. Inspector Nigel Hayes, of Pembrokeshire Roads Policing Unit, said: "I am concerned about the way in which people, and in particular children, are carried on carnival floats during carnival processions. "Our main concern is the safety of the individuals who are being carried on these vehicles, as in 1999 a person fell off a float and suffered serious injury. "I urge all organisers to contact the Roads Policing Unit at Haverfordwest and obtain a copy of the basic safety rules for carnival organisers. "Although there is legislation available to prosecute for offences involving the carriage of passengers, we would rather people were safe and aware of the dangers." Pembrokeshire County Council's licensing team also urges anyone planning an event to contact them as soon as possible to discuss any necessary licensing requirements. Anyone wanting to contact the Pembrokeshire Roads Policing Unit can do so on 0845 330 2000 or Pembrokeshire County Council on 01437 764551.
