Pembrokeshire police and Pembrokeshire County Council's road safety department are urging people to be bright and to be seen at night. The dark and foggy winter evenings add to the hazards of using the roads in our county. Pedestrians and cyclists are particularly at risk if they are not clearly visible. So far this winter, police officers have been called to deal with a number of very serious road vehicle collisions involving pedestrians and cyclists where poor visibility and inconspicuous clothing may have been a contributory factor. People are now being urged to make sure they can be seen during darkness or foggy conditions. Sergeant Mike Allen, of Pembrokeshire Road Policing Unit, said: "Many people will want to shed those extra calories after Christmas and choose to exercise by cycling or walking. "Make sure you make yourself seen by wearing bright or reflective clothing and if you're walking at night, why not carry a torch? "We are also reminding cyclists that it is an offence to ride a bicycle during darkness without showing appropriate lights. "By taking our advice a cyclist could save themselves a £30 fine, but most importantly, both pedestrians and cyclists could also have their lives saved."
