Sir,
I am sure many of your readers will have had sympathy with your correspondent, Mr. V. J. Elward, in his failure to have access to a public toilet at Pendine when he was on his way to Tenby on March 14. Let us hope he might have been more fortunate when passing through either Saundersfoot or Kilgetty, before reaching Tenby.
On Thursday, March 31, I was in Tenby and whilst in Tudor Square, met a lady and gentleman of a certain age, which I believe to be the politically correct term, when the lady, evidently in some distress, approched me and asked me could I direct her to the nearest toilet.
I told her to go through the Market and turn right into Upper Frog Street, where she would see the toilets, but warned her that they might not be open. I also said, in that case she would need to go down to the 'bus station.' Her face fell. Clearly she was unlikely to get that far without a mishap. I checked before leaving Tenby and the toilets in Frog Street were indeed closed until April 1.
We hear and read so much about such eye-catching frivolity as Tenby in Bloom and other planned attractions. Would it be unreasonable to suggest that the council dignitaries could perform a more useful service by ensuring that people's basic needs are given priority, and where any amenities may be available?
