Suzanne Davies, who is a customer services officer from the NatWest branch on Corvus Terrace, St. Clears, swapped her uniform for overalls and paint brush at Whitland Cricket Club over the weekend to take part in NatWest CricketForce - the largest volunteer event in sport, aimed at rejuvenating local cricket clubs across the country. The NatWest staff joined other volunteers and club officials to help with projects including fence repairs, painting sightscreens, pressure washing patios and staining benches. In recognition of her efforts, Suzanne will also receive up to £500 for the club as part of NatWest's Community Cashback Award Scheme, which pays out awards to individual employees and teams who make a difference to their communities by fund- raising, helping and managing local organisations and charities. This award wining grassroots initiative, in partnership with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), has snowballed in popularity since it began in 2002. This year, NatWest CricketForce attracted enough volunteers to fill the Lord's Cricket Ground three times over (80,000), with more than 1,000 clubs registering to take part from Cornwall to Durham, generating an estimated £20 -25 million of investment for club cricket. Suzanne Davies, from NatWest's St. Clears branch, who was one of the staff who took part, said: "We all worked really hard, but had a lot of fun too and it's great to see what we have achieved for our cricket clubs in such a short space of time. NatWest is committed to investing in the community and, together with the ECB, we recognise the huge contribution volunteers make to cricket. I'm therefore thrilled that my employers see developing grassroots cricket in this way as an important part of our well known involvement in the game - NatWest CricketForce has justifiably established itself in the cricket calendar." Richard Merriman, chairman of Whitland Cricket Club, said: "NatWest CricketForce has given us a great opportunity to get some much needed work done to ensure our 2008 season gets off to the best possible start. We would like to thank everyone who gave up their time to come along and help. Events like this make a real difference to us and lead to increased participation and a great sense of community spirit."
