Tenby's De Valence has not really been a recognised as music venue amongst either Pembrokeshire's musicians or audience - up until now that is!
The first step in the right direction was surely taken on Saturday when equal parts of rock, reggae, funk and punk - mixed with a huge amount of bravery, provided the ingredients for a great local bands 'showcase' gig as part of the Tenby Arts Festival Fringe.
The bravery came in the form of guitarist Sam, whose band, 'Last Chance Heroes' had not been able to make it to Tenby on the night.
"I'm really nervous," he announced as he took to the stage alone to open the evening with a solo set which earned him some of the loudest applause of the evening.
Next up were the excellent 'Brother Vegetable' with their indigenous style of reggae, before 'One Room Down' - who were missing a guitarist themselves - turned up the volume and rocked more of the audience onto their feet.
Jonski's band kept the momentum going, before Angelfish took over with their more melodic, though hard-edged rock. There was even a 'solo' stage invasion by a young lady called Sarah who danced in the spotlight, much to the band's amusement! Dirty Dog were last on stage with a punk-fringed, funk sound that has certainly matured since they were last seen.
Full marks to the De Valance for getting their act together and hosting a great night of local music. It was a pity that the audience was a little thin on the ground but, hopefully word will get out that the De Valence is a great venue for a rocking night out in Tenby... more gigs please!
