Sailings of the MV Balmoral, last flagship of the famous P&A Campbell White Funnel fleet and Britain’s most widely travelled coastal cruising vessel, which was visiting Milford Haven, ended up being cancelled due to mechanical problems on today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday).

A post on the White Funnel LTD Facebook page said: “Routine evening inspection revealed a new tear in the coupling between the engine and gearbox, the part which was repaired and inspected by a specialist technician last week. The ship is therefore unable to sail until the previously ordered new part arrives.

“Our fullest apologies for the inconvenience and disappointment caused by these cancellations and the late notice given.”

The company said it had a ‘wonderful afternoon’ sailing out of Milford Haven on Tuesday and this is ‘a huge disappointment to us.’

Sailing today was a birdwatching spectacular to Skomer, Skokholm and Grassholm, while tomorrow a rare opportunity to visit Lundy Island was scheduled.
