THE Ballet Russe returns to Narberth in a spectacular ballet of 'Les Sylphides' in one act, with choreography by Mikhail Forkine and music by Frederic Chopin.
This is one of the revolutionary works of the 20th century; re-asserting the lyrical and poetic qualities of ballet at a time which contained brilliantly faceted virtuosity in most of its full length ballets. It is also typical of the Kirov style in St. Petersburg in its purest form.
This is followed in the second act by a gala performance with excerpts from many of the well-known ballets, such as The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Giselle, Coppelia and others.
Many of the company are guest artists with major international touring companies and most of them have been trained in the Kirov or Bolshoi Schools. Yuri Demakov was invited as a guest artist to St. Petersburg last April to perform in the famous Marinsky Theatre. There are also four new dancers - two principal dancers from Moscow, Svetlana Kojanova and Oleg Kozhanov, and two Corphees from St. Petersburg.
This performance will be at the Queen's Hall, Narberth, on January 18, at 7.30 pm. Tickets from box office at £12 adult, £10 concessionary, £5 children.
