Friends of the Community has received a financial boost thanks to Julian and Tish Rossiter, of Sub-Urban, Tenby, who have donated money from charging 5p for carrier bags to the charity which totalled nearly £150.

Friends of the Community was formed 28 years ago by now-president Miss Mavis Owen MBE.

The money collected is used to purchase equipment for community nurses in the local district, covering an area from Llanteg to Cresselly and Jameston to Amroth.

This equipment remains in the Friends' ownership, but is looked after and allocated by the district nurses from their stores in Honeyborough.

In the last 10 years alone, the Friends have spent some £110,000 (all this money is raised by the committee) on purchasing over 1,900 pieces of equipment which in turn has benefited over 1,800 patients.

Equipment supplied ranges from Kylie sheets costing £10 to a Nimbus air bed and mattress at £3,500.

Thanks to the generosity of sponsors such as Giles Birt and John Butland, there are no administration costs, so every penny raised is used to buy equipment.

The nursing equipment purchased enables patients to be nursed in their own home environment and also helps to ease their suffering, thereby helping their families who care for them.

There is an endless need for equipment and the Friends' task to raise money is made that much easier with the generosity of organisations and individuals in the local community.
