Coastal Galleries, the prestigious, innovative and exciting art destination in Wales for the 21st century art lover, is playing host to a unique originals show at its gallery in Saundersfoot with the work of Neil Buchanan, the multi-award winning fine artist, producer and creator of the twice BAFTA winning TV programme Art Attack.

This unique original exhibition launched on Saturday. It heralded the debut in Wales of Neil Buchanan's original art. Neil - who attracted six million viewers a week to his art programme over 17 years and enjoyed a global success with Art Attack - appeared at the private collectors' event on Saturday, whilst his originals and limited editions will be in the gallery until mid June.

The Neil Buchanan Originals Exhibition features the extraordinary original work from Neil Buchanan's Hope Street and Back Street Games. The framed originals that make up Hope Street exquisitely depict 'the story of childhood' and are painted in acrylics, whilst the five originals that form the Back Street Games will be on display for the first time and feature the real Olympic legacy that's taking place in the 'athlete's alleys' across the UK long after the final race was run in 2012. These amusing and highly original pieces have been vibrantly created in mixed media acrylic and ink pen.

Neil's original work which was only recently released has already started selling, and immediately achieved a five figure price tag. The exhibition will feature around 25 works of original art from his two collections and there will also be a number of framed original pastels and sketches alongside the most popular and best-selling limited edition works from Hope Street and Back Street Games.

The prolific TV artist who generated thousands of ideas over 500 episodes, decided to release his original art in Wales through Coastal Galleries, as he has a special affinity with Saundersfoot.

"I go to Wales every year for a family holiday and after visiting Saundersfoot during a filming trip and, seeing how beautiful it was, I vowed I would return. When Coastal Galleries offered me the opportunity to exhibit, it meant another excuse to come back to one of my favourite haunts."

Indeed, Neil was so smitten with the place he decided to do a 'flying visit' to the town ahead of the exhibition earlier this month and paint a one-off original sunset harbour scene called 'Saunders Set', together with a delightful naive painting of Tenby entitled 'Tenboats'.

"I couldn't resist painting an exclusive one-off picture of these charming places. To me Saundersfoot is an atmospheric and hauntingly beautiful place with romantic connotations which touches my natural attraction for the sea, coming from a sea port myself. Saundersfoot is one of those magic places that sadly no longer exists along much of the British coastline and thank goodness for this wonderful haven!"

With nostalgia a key theme of the exhibition, Neil found the time he spent in Wales stirred some powerful childhood memories.

"I found the whole of the Pembrokeshire peninsula immediately transported me on a nostalgic journey back to the happy days of my childhood that was spent on family holidays from Liverpool to much of the Welsh coast, from Rhyl and Llandadno through to Newquay and Tenby. Now I am delighted to be working with Coastal Galleries on this exciting event and am looking forward to meeting art collectors and seeing the reaction to my work."

Speaking after the event on Saturday, Neil added: "I had a really enjoyable visit to Coastal Galleries, lots of friendly people came along to see me and my work and gave me such great feedback. I was meant to leave around 2.30, but such was the interest that I finally got on the road at 5.30. Coastal Galleries did a great job displaying my art and I hope lots more people will be able to go along and see my work which is on display until mid-June. My thanks to everyone."

Visionary owner of Coastal Galleries was equally effusive about the upcoming exhibition, as Chris Elliott added: "We have been working on this project for some time and we are delighted that Coastal Galleries have been chosen to debut Neil Buchanan's original work in Wales. Although Neil was incredibly prolific during his time on Art Attack, the fact that he will only be releasing a limited number of pieces makes his fine art originals even more highly-prized and it was the proverbial icing on the cake to have Neil in the gallery on Saturday to talk to art lovers about the inspiration behind his work."

Coastal Galleries is located at Cambrian Terrace, Saundersfoot, and the exhibition will be open until mid-June 10 am - 5 pm each day.
