Monday saw the final of the B. H. Munt Cup between Narberth and the Badgers, hosted by Tabernacle Short Mat Bowls Club. The singles saw a very even match between Derek Rowan, of Narberth, and John James, of the Badgers, with both players delivering good woods, but it was John who came out the winner by two shots with a score of 7 - 5 to get the Badgers of to a good start. The doubles became a very one-sided match with Narberth's Lionel Phillips and Lance Windsor taking a commanding lead after seven ends 10 - 4, but the Badgers' pair of Elaine Shaw and Hazel Wadey staged a fine come back to take the last two ends by six shots to force a draw, a decisive result as it turned out. L. Thomas, J. Lewis and G. Thomas, of Narberth, took a firm hold on the triples and never allowed the Badgers' triples a chance to get into the game and they ran out 16 shots to six, leaving it all down to the rinks. Narberth started the final game strongly and led five shots to two, but then the Badgers lead of Carole Wheadon, playing really well and second Bob Duncombe both finding the jack, enabled the Badgers to come through and win nine shots to six. The final result was Badgers five points Narberth three. It was a close match, played in a very good spirits. Both teams thanked Tabernacle for the tournament, and as always, the refreshments.
