Sir, I have just returned from a week's holiday in Saundersfoot where my family and I considered a visit by rail to Carmarthen. We drove to Saundersfoot station, but quickly changed our minds by the state of the road that led to the station and by the lack of car parking space. The track, it could not be called a road, was rutted and pot-holed, and the railway boundary fence was about to collapse at any time onto an unwary pedestrian. The whole place had an air of abandonment and neglect; it was to say the least, unwelcoming. Our wish was to use the train and reduce our 'carbon footprint' had we made the journey by car, instead the railway lost out on three adult fares and left a bad impression on us.
