FOR most people, celebrating a 90th birthday might consist of a quiet family get-together, or something of the sort. Not for Dick Westmacott, who turned 90 in July. He celebrated instead with a return to the saddle, after a 50-year break, at Marros Riding Stables. He was joined on his ride by his children, Richard and Rosemary, his grandchildren, Kristian and Elizabeth, Kristians friend Tia, and daughter-in-law Arleen, who also organised the event.
In spite of the weather forecasts predicting thunderstorms, the sun shone brightly all afternoon and ensured an enjoyable outing.
On returning to the stables, Dick rejoined his wife Betty, Christopher and Pat Gunther, and Eileen Beddis where upon the grandchildren produced a birthday cake that they had made themselves.
Elizabeth had drawn a picture of Dick on a horse to decorate it.
Thanks to Marros Riding Stables for their assistance in arranging the event.
