Folly Farm, one of Wales' premier family attractions, has new little bundles of joy popping up all over the place.

Alongside all the regular new arrivals that Folly Farm has each year like foals, calves, rabbits and guinea pigs they have had a couple of surprise babies this season.

First to arrive was a baby Mara. A group of three Maras came to Folly Farm earlier in the season and have settled into their new home extremely well. Mabel who lives happily in the outside paddocks with Maggie and Margo, gave Folly Farmers a shock when she was found with her new arrival early one morning.

Jane Hill the farm supervisor said: "It was a bit of a shock when this baby arrived because they are all female Maras so she must have been pregnant when she came to us, which means that we could have more babies on the way."

The Maras' official name is Patagonian Cavy and they originate from Argentina. Surprisingly these animals are large members of the rodent family closely related to the guinea pig. However, they look nothing like guinea pigs and the new little one named Matilda is very cute and doing really well.

The second new arrival was a little fluffier than the Mara, a new little male Llama named Louis. The Llamas Hannah, Ruth, Romey and Harriet are all out in the paddocks at present and can be seen from the tractor and trailer ride. Louis, the new little one is not worried by the tractor or guests, in fact he loves all the attention.

Llamas have been part of the Folly Farm gang since 1998 and are always a big hit with the guests. A baby Llama is called a cria and little Louis will not only be looked after by his mum, but also by all the other Llamas, because when a baby Llama is born, all of the group help to raise the youngster.
