Penally School is to close at the end of the summer, it has been confirmed this week. The closure comes as part of Pembrokeshire County Council's adoption of a controversial recommendation in relation to a review of educational provision in the Tenby area. At a cabinet meeting on Monday, the director of education was authorised to issue a statutory notice under the provisions of Section 29 of the Schools Standard and Framework Act 1988 giving notice of the council's proposals to close Penally School on August 31 this year, and make provision for the extension of the catchment area of Tenby Infants and Tenby Junior Schools to be extended to include Penally. The closure decision was taken despite 10 letters of objection and a 174-signature petition.
