THE Torch Theatre has scooped two major awards from the Theatre in Wales website for 'One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest' - its 25th anniversary production memorably directed by Peter Doran. The awards are for Best Production (in English) and Best Design (Sean Crowley).
The award ceremony will be held at Aberystwyth Arts Centre on Friday, January 24. The awards themselves, made by Aberystwyth based glass artist Sian Lyle, are sponsored by New Welsh Review and the ceremony itself is sponsored by Aberystwyth Arts Centre.
Catrin Rees - who performed at the Torch Theatre in 'A Prayer for Wings' - will collect the award for Best Performer, for her performances in Theatr Clwyd's 'Flora's War' and 'To Kill a Mockingbird'. The second of these productions toured to the Torch Theatre last year.
"We're obviously aware of how appreciative local audiences are of our own productions, but it's nice to know that the standard and quality of our work is being recognised further afield," said artistic director Peter Doran.
