The award-winning South Wales Gay Men’s Chorus will give its first-ever Pembrokeshire performance next month.
The choir will be taking to the stage of Saundersfoot’s Regency Hall for a concert which is the culmination of the village’s Cawl by the Sea day on Saturday, March 3.
Celebrating St. David’s Day, Wales and the village, the day will feature the famous annual cawl trail, live music, a Welsh afternoon tea, the ever-popular dragon trail and a showcase of local events and organisations.
The day is being organised by Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism, which is staging the evening concert in conjunction with the Regency Hall.
SWGMC was crowned festival champion at last year’s Cornwall International Male Choral Festival, where it competed against choirs from all over the UK - including Tenby Male Choir - Australia, Russia, Sweden, America and Germany.
Alongside the festival’s top accolade, the choir also won first prize in the 40 Voices and Under category, and a prize for the best single piece of music for their moving arrangement of Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
SWGMC was launched in 2008 by its current musical director and is preparing to celebrate its 10th anniversary with a busy schedule of performances.
Said a spokesman: “The chorus is very proud to be part of a strong Welsh heritage and proud to be playing an active role in the community.
“At the heart of the chorus is a passion for music, for expression, for fun and for connecting with friends in south Wales and across the globe.
“This will be our debut performance in Pembrokeshire and that we are all looking forward to.”
The versatile Pembrokeshire duo Fiddlebox will be the supporting act at the concert, playing a medley of traditional Welsh folk and songs of the sea.
The evening gets underway at 7.30 pm and tickets, at £10, are available now from Little and Large Lite Bites, The Regency Hall and The Marina in Saundersfoot, or by calling 07951 578550.
