Following the successful launch of the Pembrokeshire Sustainable Schools Award scheme last September, 20 primary schools have now registered for the project. The aim of the scheme is to encourage a whole school approach to sustainable development.

The Sustainable Schools Award process brings together development and environmental education, health promotion and Agenda 21 expertise from six partner organisations who offer schools the support and guidance they need to fulfil the scheme criteria.

Said project officer, Claudia Ludescher: "Our aim is to help schools to incorporate sustainability into every aspect of school life. We want them to look at how they manage resources in school as well as teaching it in the classroom.

"Education for Sustainable Development introduces responsible citizenship towards the school, community and the wider world to children and grown-ups and I am delighted that so many schools have decided to register."
