An internationally-renowned cellist who attended Pentlepoir School has been awarded one of the BBC’s highly acclaimed classical music awards for instrumental performance.

David Watkin, head of strings at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, became the first cellist to win BBC Music Magazine’s ‘Instrumental Award’ for his recording of JS Bach’s Cello Suites.

The awards, which were announced recently at a ceremony at Kings Place, London, recognise the very best instrumentalists and composers in the classical music industry.
