Students of Tenby Junior School were very proud to learn that they had won the first ever Sustainable Schools Special Innovation Prize for their scheme to promote water saving awareness. They are pictured here with Janie Pridham, sustainable schools project officer (Global Connections), Mrs. Jan Llewellyn, headteacher, and Mr. Tom Cox, Year 4 teacher. The scheme encourages students to work at home with their families to achieve bronze, silver and gold awards by performing various water-saving activities, for example, not letting the water run while cleaning teeth, not overfilling the kettle when someone wants a hot drink and designing a water- saving device that harvests rain water. "We were impressed with the way that the project involves so many students and their families, taking the message of saving water right into the community," said Janie, who was part of the judging panel. The school is looking forward to the prize which will be the opportunity for them to work with a local artist in school to create a sculpture out of items that would otherwise have been put in landfill.
