Among the 600 first time Ironmen athletes was local undertaker Simon Rossiter, of Tenby, who offered his services as a volunteer marshal last year and was so inspired, committed to entering this year's event.
Simon, who completed the course in 13:22:25, said this week that he had done much better than he expected.
"It was a brilliant event," said Simon, who crossed the finishing line with fellow Tenby competitor Billy Connor.
"The both of us really soaked up the atmosphere as we crossed the finishing line."
Despite being out on the course for over 13 hours, Simon admitted 'it all went too quickly'!
"I really couldn't have done it without the local support," he continued. "To hear people shouting my name was a massive boost and worth so much more power than people know. The crowd were really part of the team and the support from the crews at the feed stations was amazing and so welcoming.
"Going up St. Bride's Hill, the roar of the crowd was unbelievable, in fact, I felt as if they had picked me up and thrown me to the top, while at The Green, I was crying so much with the roars, I nearly crashed my bike!
"I have now seen both sides as a marshal and an athlete and I would say to anyone thinking of signing up to do it - it is a chance of a lifetime."
