With Bonymaen unable to raise a team, the Athletic travelled to Newcastle Emlyn to play the Division Three side and just came up short.
Again there were a number of late changes and the Athletic started slowly in this encounter. However, 20 minutes into the game, a dropped pass by Emlyn was kicked through by winger Tim Plumb and he won the race to touch down in the corner. The extras were added by a superb conversion from fly-half Tom Richards.
Emlyn came back strongly and after a number of penalties, which ended in a score for the winger which Rhydian Harris converted, a 'professional foul' in front of the posts gave Richards the easiest of tasks to add a penalty. On the stroke of half-time, a mistake in midfield allowed Emlyn to score their second try.
Two more tries during the second half and a conversion looked as if it would kill off the Athletic, but two more Richards penalties kept their hopes alive.
Then, good work from number eight Jamie Bohata, returning from a long-standing injury problem, gave Rhys Davies the opportunity to make a clean break down the blind-side.
Davies slipped an inside pass to fullback Tom Dennis to score near the posts for Richards to bring the teams to within a single point with his conversion kick.
Deep into injury time, the home team fly-half, Rhydian Harries, kicked a neat drop-goal to give Emlyn a win, but the Athletic performance away to a First XV league team was very commendable and will stand them in good stead during the rest of the season.
