The Otters were denied a game on Saturday in Division One West as the away fixture against Maesteg was called off at 2 pm, at a time when the supporters' bus was pulling up into the car park adjoining the ground!
The supporters were not to be denied a game, however, and without getting off the bus, they arranged for the driver to take them to Dunvant to watch Narberth Athletic in action against Dunvant Development.
A big hold-up from Jersey Marine through Fabian Way meant that the rugby thirsty Narberth supporters could only see the second half, but it was worth watching as fortunes fluctuated between the two teams.
Ultimately, a late penalty by Development centre Richard Lewis clinched this match for the Dunvant team, where the lead changed hands several times in a very close contest.
Back row forward Richard Sharpe-Williams gave the visitors the lead with two tries in the first half, one of which was converted by scrum-half Rhys Davies. Dunvant Development replied with three penalties by outside-half Steve Davies.
In the second half, Dunvant number eight David Williams scored an excellent try in the left corner to give the home team the lead, which was extended with a penalty by centre Richard Lewis.
However, cheered on by the large number of supporters, Narberth Athletic fought back with a well-worked try by centre Ben Clarke, converted by Rhys Davies, but Richard Lewis held his nerve with a long range penalty to give the Development team the points in the closing stages.
Prop Paul Brown was nominated by the team management as the Narberth man-of-the-match.
Narberth first team will be hoping for better luck tomorrow (Saturday) when they are home to defending Division One West champions Tonmawr at the Lewis Lloyd ground.
Narberth Athletic will be away for the second week on the trot and will travel near the new Parc y Scarlets Stadium on their way to play Loughor.
