A new project initiated by Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum will put local and regional recreational use under the microscope this autumn. Part of the survey aims to work out how to deal with increasing pressures being brought to bear on some of the most popular haunts for outdoor activities, including surfing, quad biking and caving. It is hoped this information will lead to better-placed marketing strategies under current and future tourism drives. The South Wales Tourism Partnership is one of the organisations involved in the project. Regional director, Gary Davies, thinks the audit will help create a valuable baseline of information aiding future investment in the tourism industry. He said: "We all talk about responsible tourism and should encourage anything that helps us make more informed decisions. It's all about matching up what we are doing with marketing while at the same time identifying conservational issues." The project is taking place thanks to a partnership of organisations involved in the management and provision of sustainable recreation in south west Wales and consultants Bowles Green Limited have now commenced work on the audit. The project overall is being coordinated by Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum and will be carried out over the next few months.
