Whitland welcomed First Minister Carwyn Jones as part of a special meeting held in the town. The Hywel Dda Centre hosted Assembly members on Thursday, October 9, for the scrutiny meeting of the First Minister.
Along with Mr. Jones, in attendance were David Melding AM (chair), Paul Davies AM, Elin Jones AM, Joyce Watson AM, and Eluned Parrott AM. David Melding AM stated that he was delighted to be in the Hywel Dda Centre and that there was no better place to have this meeting with the Assembly now discussing lawmaking for Wales.
According to tradition, Hywel Dda, during the first half of the 10th century, summoned representatives from all over his Kingdom to an assembly at 'Ty Gwyn ar Daf yn Nyfed' - 'The White House on the Taf in Dyfed' (Whitland) for the purpose of codifying the laws.
Matters on the agenda included implications for Wales on the current debate on constitutional changes following the Scottish Referendum. The committee asked the First Minister about local issues of direct concern to the people living and working in West Wales.
The main topics were broadband speed, tansport and health issues.
