Sir,
The new pier extension, bridge and pontoon is an artist's dream, a builder's nightmare and a ratepayer's headache.
All other pontoons in the county are in deeper water and do not rely on tides for watercraft to access.
The amount of money to extend landings by two hours does not add up. The pontoon will be side-on to tidal waves, which any mariner will tell you is asking for disaster.
As this project is grant assisted by the West Wales Coastal Forum Project, the European Regional Development Fund and Welsh Office, the money would be better spent upgrading or renewing the present system, which does at the moment meet most of the requirements. It has worked successfully for many years and is removable.
So reuse and upgrade, and save the users, tourists and ratepayers money.
There has been no sight of an environmental impact survey, feasibility study, or costings, which a private individual would have to submit.
So ratepayers, share your views on your money. Are there costings on the other pontoon maintenance?
Furthermore, the storm tides at the back of the pier are more damaging than inland rivers and estuaries.
The sand build-up behind the pier on the proposed site has also risen by approximately three metres in the last nine years. At one time, you could walk under the bottom braces of the old lifeboat house, now you have to step over them.
