A LOCAL artist is to have his digital work used in the first art exhibition in outer space which is to be launched this month.

Tony Brooks, an associate professor at Aalborg University in Denmark, who has a home in Saundersfoot, is to have his art work exhibited in orbit attached to the top of an antenna boom on the top of a small satellite named Sprite-Sat, developed by Tohoku University in Japan,

The satellite, which will exhibit 40 pieces of artwork from 14 different countries, will be launched from Jaxa's Tanegashima Space Centre, on January 21.

"The art that is used in non-formal education initiatives with disabled children, is created by children gesturing in 3D volumetric sensor-based virtual reality to create images, music and gameplay," explained Tony.

His selected image for the exhibition originates from the Artabilitation international workshops.

Tony has also seen one of his proposals accepted for the Welsh contribution to the Cultural Olympiad 2012.
