WORK from a local artist has been chosen from over 1,000 entries to exhibit at the prestigious annual exhibition of the New English Art Club. From Friday, December 1, to Monday, December 18, the New English Art Club (NEAC) presents its annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries in central London, and among those exhbiting will be Eden Evans, of Fairway, Penally. This exhibition marks years of rivalry coming to fruition as the New English Art Club and the Royal Academy of Arts come together to publish a new book that illustrates a history of the originally avant-garde art society. The New English Art Club started out as a group of artists rejected by the conservative Royal Academy, who created their own vigilante art exhibiting society, setting up a rival show of work full of dynamic and vibrant observation inspired by Impressionism. Now, more than 100 years later, many of the NEAC members are also RA members, and the olive branch has finally been waved as the RA publish a history of the NEAC. The publication and exhibition also mark a culmination and a coming of age for a society that has included such esteemed members as Sickert, Whistler and Sargeant. At present, the NEAC has many high-profile members such as John Ward, Charles Williams and Ruth Stage and continues to nurture new and exciting artistic talent. Alongside contemporary work, this year's annual exhibition also features the work of William Orpen (1878-1931) from the collection of the Imperial War Museum, as well as a programme of talks and demonstrations.
