Last Friday evening the Tenby and District Arts Club opened their annual Art Exhibition in St Johns Church hall, Warren Street, Tenby.

Audrey Johns the well known Pembrokeshire artist opened the exhibition, she talked enthusiastically about the high standard of work on display, which includes a variety of subjects depicted, including many excellent Pembrokeshire scenes.

Audrey spoke of the evident energy in the works, and the both subtle and strong use of line, shape and colour. She spoke of the inspiration that comes to all artists, with the need to express their thoughts and enthusiasm of what they see, both in reality and in their minds eye.

She was very pleased to be with the Tenby Arts Club, thanked them for their invitation to open their exhibition and wished them continued success.

Audrey Johns has spent her life drawing and painting. As a teacher she has inspired many young people . when a young mother she started a soft furnishing business, this she ran very successfully for 30 years. Now the business called ‘Audrey Johns’ is run in Neyland by her son and daughter in law and employs 45 people.

So since her retirement Audrey has returned full time to painting her beautiful pieces of work, with her individual style, using strong colour and line, which depict the cottages, streets, harbours and views of our lovely county.

Paintings by Audrey Johns can be seen in many exhibitions by groups of artists all over the county, and her next solo show will be in the refectory at St Davids Cathedral in September, however a permanent display of her work is in the Court Yard Gallery, at Hilton Court gardens just off the road from Haverfordwest to St Davids.

Carol Brinton Thomas the chair of the Tenby and District Arts Club thanked Audrey for coming to open the exhibition which cannot happen except for the unstinting work and help by many of the members.

Carol especially thanked Graham Hadlow, Sylvie Morgan, Gerald Williams, Sandra Parker, Janet Clark, Harry Gardiner, Roz Oak, Ann and Philip Marsden, to name but a few, who gave of their time and talents to put this show together.

There are of course many other members of the Arts Club who do not paint, because this Arts club embraces all the Arts and the variety of speakers and entertainers throughout the year reflect this, so the Friday evening meeting will include visits from Actors and Poets, Photographers, Geologists , Historians, Writers and Musicians.

The first meeting this Autumn will be on Friday, October 5 at 7.30 pm.

And the Memphis 6 will be performing. Members of the Arts Club welcome any one to attend the meetings, the cost is minimal.

The art Exhibition in the Hall at St Johns, continues until Friday, August 17 and is well worth a look.

Actually you can also see the exhibition of the knitted Bible in the Church on the same visit. Both are free to view.
