THE annual auction of paintings will be held in the Queen's Hall Gallery on Saturday, July 27, starting at 3.30 pm, and conducted by Ozi Rhys Osmond, the well-known local artist, writer and broadcaster. Viewing will be from Tuesday, July 23.

This is the one opportunity of the year for the public to buy genuine works of art and there are definitely both investments and bargains to be had. It is the fund-raiser for the Queen's Hall Gallery, which relies totally on volunteers and needs to raise £2,500 annually to pay the rent.

The gallery hosts many high quality exhibitions and runs a developing education programme; this year there is a series of workshops with the assistance of the Millennium Fund and ongoing weekly Artlink life drawing classes.

Friends of the Queen's Hall Gallery, artists and supporters are all asked to contribute one or more pieces of work or to enter any paintings which they own, but would now like to sell on.

For further information on entering pieces of work or about the auction, please telephone (01834) 861212, 869107, or 01437 541264.

The Summer Exhibition will be held in the Queen's Hall Gallery from August 3-31, daily from 10 am to 5 pm, although if you are travelling you are advised to contact the Queen's Hall to confirm that the gallery is open.

This year it has been decided that a limited number of professional artists will be invited to exhibit, to ensure a high quality show. Many of the artists showing their work, such as Christine Kinsey, John Selway, Andrea Kelland, Geoff Yeomans, Audrey Walker and Martin White, to name but a few, will be familiar to art lovers as they have all exhibited at the gallery and throughout Britain during the past year. It should prove to be both a diverse and visually engaging show and not one to miss.
