A team of Army soldiers will be making a pit stop in Penally, Tenby tomorrow (Saturday) as they travel around the country on a mammoth 4200-mile charity motorbike ride. Fourteen soldiers form Prince William of Gloucester Barracks, based in Grantham, Lincolnshire, have taken up the challenge to raise money for Help for Heroes. The soldiers who are all members of the Royal Logistic Corps, will complete the ride on Army Harley Davison motorbikes that are used by dispatch riders for a variety of liaison and traffic control tasks. The trip will see them ride along ride along the coast of Britain from Skegness to Clacton on Sea, from Bournemouth to Swansea and from Colwyn Bay to Dover. The team has already reached its fund-raising target of £10,000 and are now hoping to raise a further £2,000. The ride, which includes a two day break for rest and recuperation at RAF Holyhead, will see them ride 320- 400 miles a day, finishing at the Lincoln Show on June 19. Supporting them on the ride will be a team of four soldiers who will be driving back up vehicles carrying repair kits and tyres should they be required. Major Bill Scott, the officer in charge of the team, said: "The event is not for the faint-hearted and it will be a test of everyone's stamina, endurance and teamwork." The last month has seen the soldiers complete a motorcycle refresher course. They have also been out on their bikes to help them become accustomed to eight hours of riding a day.
