As part of the 80th Anniversary of VE Day events Major General Jules Buczacki CBE Assistant Chief of the Defence Staff (Military Strategy), will be giving a talk in the Lecture Theatre at Castlemartin Range.

The talk ‘Reflections around VE Day’ which will take place at 7 pm, on May 14, is being hosted by the Trustees of St Mary’s Church Warren.

Warren Church Trustee and former Commandant of Castlemartin Ranges Lt Col Patrick Lort-Phillips said: “General Buczacki will offer his personal reflection on the meaning of VE Day for the military today.

“The talk comes at a time when the security of Europe is more uncertain than at any time since 1945. He has been closely involved in planning at the top of government and in NATO. His roles and experience make this a unique insight.”

“St Mary’s Church, for which we are raising funds, stands as a symbol of peace and reconciliation having been restored in the 1980’s in a joint project with the German and British Armies when the German Army were the major users of the ranges. The General’s help in raising funds is greatly appreciated.”

St Mary’s Church in Warren is adjacent to the Range and was renovated by a combination of community and joint British and German army effort in 1988.

Its spire dominates the skyline overlooking the ranges and stands as a symbol of reconciliation and peace and a reminder of how we relied on the solidarity of NATO in those days.

Entry is free and the Church is always open.

Entry to the talk is by ticket only and is free.

A retiring collection will be taken on departure in aid of St Mary’s.
