Sir,

Tenby's 'Kids from Fame' are putting on two spectacular family shows - Wizard of Oz - at the De Valence next week - and it's hoped there'll be oodles of support for these talented youngsters.

There is a tendency at children's shows for only parents and near relatives of the cast to turn up. In fact, this happens at adult amateur productions, too.

This is a pity because a lot of good entertainment goes unseen.

And yet for children, it's an ideal introduction to live performance, which often gives them a taste for theatre throughout life.

Tenby Pavilion Young Performers are staging their first musical extravaganza. It's an imaginative treatment of the evergreen film, with all the old favourites, Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow.

Under the expert direction of Gary Tapley, a well-known actor and drama teacher, the De Valence Young Performers have been working for many months to perfect their show.

Times have changed. Telly now rules. When I was a child in Doncaster, the biggest entertainment event of the year was a musical performed by local children at a De Valence-style theatre. Tickets were as rare as duck's teeth.

Let's give the telly a backseat for the change and support Tenby area youngsters. Let all their hard work count for something. You'll have a wonderful time - whether you know the kids or not.

The Wizard of Oz is showing at the De Valence on Thursday and Friday, June 18 and 19. Both shows start at 7 pm. Tickets, in advance from the booking office or on the door, are: £6 for adults and children £4.

M. Stacey,

Tenby.
