This October, Pembrokeshire will host its second large scale bungee jump event.
The 150-foot high toll bridge running over the vast Cleddau river, adjoining Pembroke Dock and Neyland will be the setting for the two day spectacular which aims to attract 260 thrill seekers daring enough to jump or abseil over the edge.
Each one will face a 50-metre drop towards the water below.
Last year, £22,000 was the combined amount raised for various charities, between the 109 jumpers who took part. Those taking part this year, will again have the option of collecting sponsors for their chosen cause so the total raised looks set to increase this time around.
Anyone wishing to keep their feet firmly on the ground, but would like to soak up the atmosphere will find viewing areas set-up in Pembroke Dock, including a live stream on a big screen at Hobbs Point.
The Cleddau Bridge is currently the only bridge in Wales that you can bungee jump from.
Built in 1975 to replace a ferry service connecting the South of the county with the North, the busy bridge is used by 4.4 million vehicles per year.
Organisers this year are hoping that the great bridge and idyllic view of the estuary will attract adrenaline seekers from far and wide.
James Parfitt, who organised the event last year as part of the Pembroke Dock Regeneration Team, says: “We’re really excited to be able to bring this event to the town for a second year. Last September was so successful, we are confident to go ahead again and grow the idea by adding the abseil as an alternative option to the jump. There is no reason that this event can’t grow year on year, attract visitors and provide a fantastic boost to the local economy. We’re excited to bring an element of real adventure to Pembroke Dock!”
Pembroke Dock Regeneration Team is a group of volunteers acting improve the town and are supported by Pembrokeshire County Councils Regeneration Department.
The event will take place on October 15 and 16. www.bungeeoffthebridge.wales is the webpage for booking a jump or an abseil.
