Could any of your readers tell me if the maroons are still fired when the lifeboat is launched? The reason I ask is because I am a great supporter of the local lifeboat and admire the great work the volunteers carry out in order to prevent others from harm.
I read the paper on a Friday and notice the boat has been out on many occasions, yet I have not heard the maroons. When the lifeboat is launched on a windy, rough winter's night, my thoughts are with the families of the crew, who are waiting for the safe arrival of their loved ones.
If it is the case that the maroons are no longer fired when the lifeboat is launched, how are the people of Tenby and the families of the crew, who do so much in supporting our local lifeboat, supposed to know when the boat has gone out.
