West Wales AM Nerys Evans is urging parents and guardians in Pembrokeshire to apply for the Child Trust Fund Cymru top-up before it's too late.

Parents and guardians of children who were born between August 31, 2004, and September 1, 2005, have until January 31, to submit their application forms for the Child Trust Fund top-up.

Fifty pounds is available to be paid into the Child Trust Fund (CTF) accounts of all eligible children, with an additional £50 available to those children living in low income families. The Child Trust Fund helps to encourage saving, improve financial literacy and tackles financial exclusion. It also gives young people an important financial asset for the future.

Also, Nerys this week met with constituents Aled Williams and Llinos Roberts to explain the changes to the system and the options now available to new parents like them. If anybody would like more information on the Child Trust Fund, then they are welcome to contact Nerys or visit the Child Trust Fund website.

Plaid AM Nerys Evans said: "I urge all parents and guardians in Pembrokeshire who are eligible to submit their application forms for the Child Trust Fund Cymru top-up by January 31. As a result of the recent decision by the Tory and Lib Dem Westminster Governemnt to put an end to the Child Trust Fund, there has been a lot of confusion amongst parents and guardians regarding the situation here in Wales. I want to make it clear that children in Wales can still benefit from the Child Trust Fund Cymru this year."
