Sir, As my grandmother and her family were born and bred in Tenby, I have been a lifelong visitor and consider it as my second home. I have just recently spent a week with my family to celebrate New Year and I was absolutely appalled at the state of the town. My cousin, Miss Alyson Bush, sent me a copy of her letter to you with reference to the poor state of the North Beach, but I had to see it for myself to believe it. It was full of debris and looked an awful mess. The litter bins along the walk were overflowing and rubbish was strewn everywhere. I know that council workers are just as entitled to their holidays as everyone else, but surely the bins could have been emptied sometime between Christmas and New Year. The other blot on the North Walk is the cafe which looks like it is falling to bits. I know work is in progress in the harbour, but is it necessary to leave old chains and anchors littering the place. Harbour sluices are never a pretty site, but Tenby's looks like a bog on Dartmoor! Also, what on earth has happened to the South Beach? It was always advertised as one-and-a-half miles of 'golden sandy beach' - not anymore. When I was little, I remember riding on Mrs. Atwell's ponies and then there wasn't a stone or pebble in sight. I was amazed at the number of visitors to the town over New Year - what a poor impression they must have got. If I were a member of Tenby and Pembrokeshire County Council, I would be ashamed of myself. I can only hope that someone gets their finger out and gets the town back into the lovely place that it always was, before the influx of summer visitors and before it loses the coveted Blue Flag.

Miss Angela Tones, Rossendale.
