The Torch Theatre was packed full to the brim with an audience of both WI members and the general public on Monday, April 18, everyone there to watch the annual Anything Goes performances from WI institutes, across the county.
Shirley Thomas, arts and leisure WI committee, kicked-off the proceedings and handed over to Jenny Longland, Pembrokeshire Federation of WIs (PFWI) county chairman, who was the compere for the night!
The PFWI choir started the performances, conducted by Mr. Brian Lavender, with three songs - Some Enchanted Evening, Panis Angelicus and then Oklahoma.
Jenny Longland then proceeded to compere in a very lively and amusing way, throughout the evening, and introduced the seven and very varied acts from across the county.
First up was Lamphey and District WI with Growing Old Disgracefully, followed by St. Issell’s WI with Surprise Surprise, Puncheston and District WI with Birds Eye View, Milford Haven WI with Those Were The Days, Bosherston WI with Your County Needs You, Mathry WI with Ying-Yang and Menevia WI with An Audience With Pam Ayres.
Everyone in the audience sang along, clapped and cheered all the amazing and well-produced performances and enjoyed a fun night out in such a wonderful Pembrokeshire venue!
Many thanks must also go to the wonderful team (front of house and stage management and effects) for the fantastic support given to the Pembrokeshire Federation of WIs on yet another annual performance of Anything Goes.
Jenny Longland, county chairman said: “Once again, this has been a really successful event! What’s really nice about it is that all the WIs love to come along to it (as well as the general public), whether it’s to take part or just enjoy being in the audience! I would really like to take this opportunity to give praise and thanks to everyone that has taken part in tonight’s performances - there is so much hard work that goes into to creating and preparing these performances yet it also demonstrates how much natural talent there is, out there, to really make it a night to remember!”
Geraint Sayers, deputy front of house manager of the Torch Theatre, said: “The Pembrokeshire Federation of WIs annual event is a great highlight in the Torch calendar. It’s one that all staff look forward to greatly. It really is an evening of variety, fun and laughter! Hearing comments from the audience such as ‘it gets better every year’ makes you realise the hard work, from all those involved, is worth it!”
