HAVERFORDWEST 2nds 3 pts.
TENBY UNITED 2nds 29
Tenby United Seconds travelled to Merlins Bridge last Saturday to play a confident Haverfordwest side playing on their own patch with a large band of supporters to cheer them on.
Conditions were good with a slight wind blowing down the slope, the pitch itself however was very sticky under foot.
Stand-in Tenby skipper Neil Powling won the toss and elected to play the first half down slope.
The Seasiders started with some strong running and good inter passing by Damian Hanlon, Jonny Lane, Geoff Martin and Justin Richards, which set a great platform for Neil Duffy to feed a talented backline consisting of Paul Luger, Del Brace, Richard West and Gareth Nock.
Haverfordwest found it hard to stop the onslaught and started to infringe and give away silly penalties and with Powling bringing his kicking boots, the Blues were in for a long afternoon. It wasn't long before Tenby's first try came from a well-worked move off a scrum, 20-metres out.
Number eight Richards picked up and fed the evergreen former Tenby captain Mike Evans who in turn put Neil Duffy in under the posts, with Powling converting.
Haverfordwest never gave up and made in roads into Tenby's half putting them on the back foot, but great defence from the visitor's big forwards in particular Robbie Tuttle, Nick Griffiths and Paul Woods stopped their gallop and Tenby soon put some good phases together, with further tries eventually coming from Evans and Richards, all converted by Powling, who finished with a personal points tally of 16 for the afternoon.
Tenby manager Chris 'Faddy' Thomas was over the moon with the result and how all the boys stuck to his game plan and played for each other.
'Faddy' would like to put the boys minds at rest by saying that he has now declined the offer to tour with the British and Irish Lions this year as his priorities lie with concentrating on guiding his boys to league and cup success!
"I'd still like to urge all the players to train on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Numbers have been good in the past few sessions so let's try and keep things going please," commented the Tenby manager.
