Led by Theatr Fforwm Cymru, the workshops use interactive drama and group activities to help Year 6 pupils from schools in the Pembroke and Pembroke Dock area explore some of the risks around drug taking and peer pressure that they might encounter as they go to secondary school.
Valero Refinery public affairs manager, Stephen Thornton, praised the initiative, saying: “Pembroke Refinery has been a proud supporter of these drug awareness workshops for 17 years, and we are thrilled to be able to once again work with Pembroke Rotarians and Theatr Fforwm Cymru in disseminating this important message to another generation of young people in our local schools. Educating children of what to expect as they grow up is important, and these workshops do that in an innovative and inclusive way that succeeds in getting that message across.”
Ken Chung, of the Rotary Club of Pembroke, which organises events in its long-running Community Service Programme, said: “The Rotary Club of Pembroke works tirelessly to solve some of our communities’ toughest challenges, and the workshops are a really positive way of supporting our young people as they prepare for moving to secondary school. We have been delighted to be able to co-ordinate these wonderful workshops once again, and our thanks go to Valero and Theatr Fforwm Cymru for their involvement.”
